Process
For honors I chose to learn more about the respiratory system. I also drew a portrait that took a while to actually get through the final process. What I learned from this was that the lungs are a huge role in our body. I did research on some of the roles that are in our system.
Respiratory system:
Our Respiratory system is a complex of several series of organs who are responsible to take in oxygen and excel carbon dioxide when breathing. Lungs would be a primary organ that breathe out the exchange of of gases that we breathe. Red blood cells are the ones collecting oxygen from the lungs and carries it to the body parts that need it.
The lungs are two organs located inside the thorax. They are surrounded by a membrane that provides them with enough space to expand when they fill up with air. Because the left lung is located to the heart. The left lung is smaller and has only 2 lobes while the right lung has 3. Inside, the lungs resemble a sponge made of millions and millions of small sacs that are named alveoli. Our bodies require oxygen and the lungs provide us with that. (Example - speaking, laughing, and singing)
The nose is a big part of the respiratory system. The nose is made out of bones, skin and muscle which would be the nasal passage. The nose is very important so make sure to keep it safe.
The Trachea that can also be called the windpipe, it just has air that flows from the lungs. It branches into the bronchi, They are two tubes that carry air into each lung. It splits once it reaches the left and right of the bronchi and continues to the lungs.
Bronchi is the lower end of the trachea splits the respiratory. Two branches that are named the primary bronchi. These first run into each of the lungs before further branching off into smaller bronchi. The ribs help in the expansion and contraction of the thoracic cavity and also protects the heart and lungs
The Pharynx is also referred as throat. It is divided into three separate sections- nasopharynx, oropharynx and laryngopharynx. The nasopharynx is the region of the structure, it starts in nasal cavity and lets air to travel through it. The oropharynx is something alike but it is located at the oral cavity. Once the air reaches the laryngopharynx. The epiglottis is a flap that performs a vital task, by switching access between the esophagus and trachea. This allows that the air will travel through the trachea, but also allowed food which is swallowed and travels through the pharynx is diverted to the esophagus.
The diaphragm is a primary muscle that is used when you inhale. It is located in the lower ribs. It fluctuates air to flow into the lungs.
