For this project what we basically did was pick a topic that really matters to us. My topic became depression because I personally have felt it and I wanted to do research about it and try to make a change. We did research about the topic by searching for articles that were related to it. I found a lot of interesting research about the topic which left me with some questions specially knowing the science behind it.

After the research we needed to interview an opposer, victim, expert and advocate. We started writing questions down in a google doc. so that we could be prepared to ask them questions. Getting in contact with them was very complicated. The victim and opposer were both high school students and their respond to the questions were very interesting. We couldn't find a real real opposer who would be against depression but this person believed that people chose to be depressed so it was something that was close. The victim was one of my friends and learning more about her became something new to me and shes getting the help so it was good overall. The expert I interviewed was a psychologist. From their experience I got the questions answered and the place is honestly such a quiet room that you can honestly just vent and it feels nice. The advocate gets a different point of view because the way they think is super awesome.

Our prototype was a bracelet that could have a voice recorder in it. The voice of someone that you feel that makes you feel so much better. Also you would be able to add motivational quotes into the bracelet, words that keep you motivated or just happy.

We test our prototype by having rubber bracelets. We talked about the topic to 7th graders and had them create a bracelet with positive words. We also had them do appreciations, and a name tag where their classmates would be able to wrote a positive message to them. We presented a slide show about the basics of depression.

From doing this challenge I learned a lot. I found many things challenging but the main one was coming up with a prototype. There were so many ideas that came into thought for example, creating a club where they could talk about their emotions but see sometimes trust is hard to build in. Our idea was based off a teddy bear that had a recording voice inside. After all the hard work put into this I think it came out nice. So many things were gained from this. Being able to talk to an expert was one of the best experience because I was able to ask questions to someone who talks and helps those who are depressed. It also helped me more because I would like to be a psychologist in the future so being able to get a feeling of how it feels really felt cool in way. Depression is a hard topic to talk about, I myself couldn't even believe that someone close to me could be so depressed and not even show it. When we went to present this topic to 7th graders you could see how happy they got when we did the name tag because of the positive things that were said. Overall I learned that sometimes you have to stay positive to yourself but also to others because you dont know what they're facing.
